Day 74~ Who IS the CHANGEMAKER?
Hello and welcome to day 74!!
I had a little bit of a fun today for the first time in ages and it came about from a lovely mid morning catch up with a friend.
I’m not sure about you in your life~ but as a mum of 4 children~ it’s not often I get to speak about myself (which is probably why I write so much on this blog as I finally get a chance to get it all out!)
I have 3 very close friends who are quite possibly the only people in the world that truly know me. And whilst they will listen to me chatter on and especially Miss K who has helped shaped my path many times over the last 6 months~ it is Miss L that understands my journey best as she is embarking on a very similar journey herself.
So when I got a midweek call earlier in the week to diarise a catch up~ I jumped at the chance to take a little bit of time off and go and say hello.
And catch up we did! We chatted and spoke about all kinds of things, and then midway through Miss L pulled out her phone with a definite~ “We should record this!” and then we chatted on for another 45 minutes talking all kinds of things that I had learned in the last 8 weeks, and how I shared once again that I believed that these skills were transferable.
That it did not matter if you were writing a book like me ~ or whether or not you wanted to open a youth group coaching program like Mis L~ the idea and belief still stands firmly planted in my mind that these skills I am learning on a daily basis, can be taken and transferred to any business whatsoever as long as you find a way to make it work for you.
We spoke about Value propositions.
Different mindsets between selling products and giving value.
We spoke products, and mission statements, books and email marketing and all types of things I have learned on my journey so far~ and as we did we found we really quite enjoyed the experience so much we are now wondering whether or not to make a little weekly catch up of it and record it for everyone else to listen too…. What do you think~ would you like a little eavesdrop on our conversations?
Be sure to leave me an answer below.
Anyway~ that was my fun for the day, however I did do some work too!
Little Miss Delia had a lovely pink and glitter gold 1st birthday outfit made today, and I finished making my 4th autoresponder message in my Email Newsletter, so all in all quite a productive day!
Tonight~ I am meant to be making my 5th Autoresponder message, but I think I will have the night off, and let my husband entertain me with his commentary of the daddy long legs VS white tail spider entrapment he is watching on our front door step instead!
My top 3 learning lessons from the day are as follows:
Sometimes it is nice to have a break from work!!
A quick catch up with a girl friend~ a night listening to my husband, or hanging out with the kids watching the tv are all luxuries in my life that I find myself longing for lately.
Discipline and free will are a heedy mix for me to balance in my life. I do not ever have a day of not working~ I work 7 days a week most weeks and have done for quite some time now and try my best to write every night too, though lately I am finding this harder and harder to keep up with.
I have 2 more emails to go in the email newsletter sequence I am planning on sending out, and am starting to think that sending over a 6 week period is actually just too long. If it was me receiving them with my limited attention span, I think I would be kind of over it by week 2 and most likely have forgotten about it by week three, or gone completely through the website and found all the information already!
On that note, once I finalise the last of all 6 emails~ I think I am going to change it from a 6 week email sequence and instead turn it into a 6 day email sequence. I would love to know if anyone else has an opinion on this~ so please feel free to leave me a comment below.
Lastly~ number 3:
Have you noticed the advertising at the end of my blog posts at the end of every day now? And for the record I am still working my way back through all 74 blog posts to insert~ so if some are missing then this is why.
This came about due to the fact that on day 61, I sent off an email to a particular company asking them to take part in my journey in exchange for advertising in my story at the end of every blog post.
That company never got back to me.
As I sat at my computer thinking of the total number of companies that I have now approached in the last 6 months asking for their help and to every single one of them that has said no~ I would like to take a minute to say “THANK YOU”.
Although I didn’t realise it at the time~every single company that has said no to me~ has actually made my journey into what it is today Click To Tweet
In a very ironic twist of fate~ it really is remarkable what good things can come to you~ when other people say no!!
Like a great nudge from the universe with an email from an affiliate company too~ I realised I didn’t need anyone to advertise on my blog.
If I went back and looked at what I wrote, all I needed to do was to advertise the products that I was writing about anyway.
If I was happy with the product I used~ if I was happy to stand behind it~ and tell a women with a very small budget that I thought by spending money on the advertised company that I thought it would bring her value and play an integral part on the journey that she was undertaking~ well then that was what I would do.
And so I did.
In a moment of awakening more and more every day~ I am starting to realise exactly how much power one can start to wield with building their own media and not relying on anyone else.
I don’t need to beg for advertising sponsorship from companies when I can generate more income from choosing to align perfectly positioned products to my audience.
I also don’t need to rely on my “statistics” or “audience” to convince a company I am worthwhile investing in.
In fact, as I sit here and write this, it re-iterates quite possibly the 2nd most important lesson that I have learned in my journey so far~ and that is:
Have a lovely night tonight~ and as you go to bed; have a think for a little before drifting off to sleep.
In a digital age of free speech and unrestricted access to use YOUR media (your written words, your video’s, your podcasts, your e-books, your websites) and anything else you want to put your voice to……to use for any reason you wish….. in any way you wish…..tell me once again….who indeed has the power?
Is it the person who pays you money to advertise on your website, or is it you who picks and chooses who you want to align yourself with….if indeed you choose anyone at all.
I think it’s worth remembering how valuable our content really is and that
